images; and how to process multiple images for quick sharing. The Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) module appears when you open raw camera files like those from Canon’s CR2 and Nikon’s NEF. It seems to become more of a full photo editing tool on its own with every Photoshop update, and there’s a good deal of overlap between what you can do in ACR and in Photoshop itself. Even AI selection, masking, and healing tools are now in ACR, though I’m not sure why users wouldn’t just continue to the main Photoshop interface for these things.
Today, Adobe revealed that one of those Firefly tools, Generative Fill. Is being added to the beta version of its popular Photoshop image editing genrative ai app. With the latest Adobe Photoshop beta you can now extend the edges of your photos outside the area the camera originally captured.

Imagine selecting a portion of an image in Photoshop, typing what edits you want to make in the prompt box, and getting it edited; it is already possible on Photoshop now. With this feature, you can turn 3D elements into an image based on its positioning. This feature is currently under construction and isn’t available to try right now. Firefly will be present in Adobe’s whole suite of apps soon; it is already available in Adobe Photoshop and Express. Like Microsoft, Adobe embraces AI and integrates it into its popular apps.
The face tools in Smart Portrait are more fun than practical, though they may be useful to portrait photographers if used judiciously. When I ramped up the Happiness slider on most pictures, the result was more like a forced smile than a natural one, though it can be effective if you don’t turn it up. There are also sliders for Anger, and Surprise, which were surprisingly effective.
Facial Hair and Clothing Selection
By utilising different layers and adjusting their opacity and blending modes, you can achieve depth and dimensionality that brings your images to life. Experimenting with layer styles such as bevel & emboss, drop shadow, and gradient overlay can further enhance the three-dimensional illusion. For now, these features will only be available in the beta version of Photoshop. Adobe is also making some of these capabilities available to Firefly beta users on the web (Firefly users, by the way, have now created more than 100 million images on the service). Adobe says Generative Fill in Photoshop can be used to add, extend and remove content from existing images or create new images from scratch. You can experiment with different ideas and create high-quality concepts and, because of the way Adobe Firefly is trained, Generative Fill content is safe for commercial use.

Unfortunately, most of the presets use nondescript names like FT1, FT2, FT3, and so on. They’re also a bit drab overall, with few—even in the Creative category—resulting in particularly striking effects. Even the Edgy presets are fairly tame, but there are enough choices that you’re likely to find a look you like. Select Subject uses AI to automatically determine and select the main object in an image. When active, a Select Subject button appears in the options bar across the top of the program windows.
The new tool is currently only available for users of the beta version of Photoshop, with a wider release expected to follow. With the new creative tool, users can let their imagination run wild and create stunning images in minutes. It will reduce the technical work for creators and give them more creative freedom. It is the latest in a series of AI-driven tools that Photoshop has introduced over the years, such as the selection tools, neural filters and Content-Aware Fill. You must remember that the tool is based on patterns and Machine Learning.
